A Gold Guardian story
Gold Guardian and the Brand-New Game
Every Tuesday, Gold Guardian and his friends played the same game at recess: tag around the big oak tree. Gold loved it. He knew the rules, he knew the safe spots and he always played fair.
But one Tuesday, Amber Sunshine ran up waving a bag. "Let's play something new! It's called Color Catch. I invented it this morning!"
Gold's tummy did a flip. He didn't know the rules. He didn't know the safe spots. "Can't we play tag like always?" he asked.
His friends looked at each other. Sage Listener noticed Gold's worried face. "Amber, can you explain the rules slowly first?" Sage asked.
Amber explained: everyone holds a colored scarf, and when you're tagged, you swap colors with the tagger. The game ends when everyone has held every color.
"And we can stop and ask questions anytime," added Sage.
Gold took a deep breath and picked a yellow scarf. The first round was confusing. The second was a bit better. By the third round, Gold was laughing so hard he forgot to be nervous.
"This is fun," he said, surprised. "Can we make it our Thursday game? Tag on Tuesdays, Color Catch on Thursdays?"
Everyone agreed. Gold liked that: an old favorite and a new one, each with its own special day.
The lesson: New things can become favorite things.
