A Violet Inventor story

Violet Inventor's Secret Idea

Violet Inventor had a notebook full of ideas. Shoes that bounced you over puddles. A hat that told jokes. A machine that turned rain into lemonade.

But she never showed anyone. "What if they think my ideas are silly?" she whispered to her cat.

One day, the class garden was in trouble. The plants were thirsty, and the water tap was far away. Everyone tried carrying cups of water, but it took forever and most of it spilled.

Violet flipped through her notebook. There it was: a drawing of a long tube made from old bottles, running downhill from the tap to the garden.

Her heart thumped. She almost closed the notebook. Then she thought about the thirsty tomatoes.

"I have an idea," Violet said, so quietly that only Sage Listener heard. Sage smiled. "Say it again. Louder. I think everyone should hear it."

Violet showed her drawing. For a moment nobody said anything. Then Cobalt Captain said, "That could work! Let's make a plan." Emerald Builder started measuring bottles.

By Friday, water trickled down the bottle-tube right to the tomatoes. The whole class cheered, and the plants stood up a little straighter.

That night Violet drew a new idea in her notebook, and next to it she wrote: Show everyone.

The lesson: Your ideas are worth sharing.
