Reliable, polite and sometimes formal. Golds reply when they say they will and sign off properly. They are uneasy with last-minute plan changes by text. If you text a Gold, give notice; if you are a Gold, it's okay to send a quick reply before a perfect one.
Texting tips for Golds
- A quick "got it, will reply properly later" keeps people from guessing.
- It's okay not to reply instantly, and okay to ask directly whether something is wrong.
- Not every plan needs to be confirmed in writing; a loose "see you Saturday" is fine.
Scripts that work by text
- Asking for something: "I want to give this proper thought. Can I get back to you by Thursday?"
- Saying no: "I really want to help, and I can't take this on right now."
- After a tense moment: "When the plan changed without warning, I felt thrown. Can we agree how we handle changes?"
Texting and relationships
Texting is now a normal part of relationships: Pew Research Center found many couples use texts and messages to feel closer, and some use them to resolve arguments they couldn't have face to face. Differences in texting style are common sources of misunderstanding, so it's worth naming them out loud.
